Healing is about creating the change that you do choose.”

Trauma Therapy

The Virtue Place mainly focuses on helping adults heal and grow from complex trauma.  Complex trauma is a prolonged traumatic event or series of traumatic events. Examples include years of childhood abuse/neglect and domestic abuse (physical, verbal, and emotional) occurring over the course of a relationship. The term complex trauma recognizes that someone’s experience of trauma may not have had a neat beginning and end. In fact, the person must manage the effects of enduring trauma compounded over time.

It’s understandable that you may not want to open up about experiences that have caused incredible pain. Yet avoidance or denial of trauma often means that the pain goes untended to, and then life ends up being affected by that unaddressed pain in other ways. Therapy for trauma can help you address the impact the traumatic experience has on your life. Whether it is learning to manage triggers, changing unwanted relationship patterns, or changing negative beliefs about yourself/others/world  – the goal of therapy is to help you experience a more fulfilling life. This type of therapy is typically long-term.

I would like to offer you the opportunity to learn what it means to trust yourself and someone else in the context of an unconditionally supportive relationship.

I mainly use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavorial Therapy (CBT), and attachment-based therapy to help clients heal and grow.
